Picking the right shirt for social gatherings

Social gatherings such as cocktail parties, wine tastings, New Year’s Eve parties, and corporate gatherings are great times to show off your most stylish mens dress shirts. Although these events are relaxed in nature, there are still certain unspoken rules that you should follow. The key to these events is to look elegant and fashionable enough to impress the crowd without looking too formal or too casual. Don’t forget to get a great fit by choosing custom dress shirts over standard sizes.

The White Dress Shirt

White dress shirts are essential in every man’s wardrobe because they can be worn to any event and at any time of the day. This traditional color is a man’s best choice since you can match it with any colored accessories. Depending on the tie, or the lack of, it can look formal enough for a corporate black-tie event or casual enough for a late night get-together.

Dark Dress Shirts

Darker colored dress shirts set the mood for nighttime socials. Colors like purple, navy, olive, burgundy, and brown are both festive and trendy. These colors are too bold for the office but when the light dims over a glass of wine, it’s these dress shirts that will stand out. Navy and purple give off a sense of cool, metropolitan chic that can’t be accomplished by any other color. These two look great with any colored pants from light grey to charcoal to black.

Giving off a warm friendly feeling is prefect for intimate house parties so the darker earth tones like burgundy, olive, and brown are a good match for this occassion. These colors go well with black, brown or khaki pants.

The Striped Dress Shirt

All These dark solids are great choices for evening gatherings.  However if the event is work related in which some sort of formalness is called for or if the event is during the day, you can compromise with wearing dark colored stripes on a white background. Stripes come in all widths and amplitudes. The thicker the stripes are, the more casual the dress shirt will appear. Some of the best choice come between pinstripes and bengal stripes.

Be Cautious of the Patterns

It is best to wear checks, florals and other patterned shirts with caution because they have at least two colors. These are the most casual of dress shirt and when dark colors are used, the patterns tend to look extra bold. When attending a casual get together show off your favorite checks. However if you plan to attend a company social or a cocktail party that requires a bit of class, we suggest you avoid the patterns and stick with the stripes and solids.
